Tips for Protecting Your Business from Security Risks

security risks

As a business owner, you’ve got a lot on your plate. You need to make sure your customers are satisfied, your employees are working as they should and your business is being run successfully. You also must take measures to protect your property, your workers and your clientele. It’s no secret that criminals target businesses, and if you aren’t diligent about it, yours could be the next one they strike. To avoid this, here are a few tips that will help you be proactive about keeping your company safe.

Install Adequate Lighting – Make sure all areas of your business have proper lighting. A dark area on the side of your building may be the perfect opportunity for a burglar to enter unnoticed after-hours. It’s also important that you install and maintain adequate lighting in your parking lot to keep customers and employees safe.

Keep Windows and Doors Clear – Tall bushes may look nice around your building, but if they’re located next to a point of entry, they could also serve as the ideal hiding place for a criminal. Keep hedges trimmed and avoid any other large objects or debris near windows or doors.

Be Careful with Who Has Access – If you own a business like a store or restaurant, chances are you’ll want to provide at least a few other employees with a key so that you don’t have to be on-site at all times. Be distinguishing when determining who to provide access to your business. Unfortunately, not everyone is honest and of good intent.

Install Good Locks and Alarms – Would-be crooks will likely be scared away if they know that you’ve protected your building with strong locks (we recommend double-cylinder dead bolts), an alarm system and surveillance. Feel free to advertise that you’ve taken these measures on all points of entry to get the message across.

Hire a Security Company – Of course, nothing deters criminals more than a live security guard. There are plenty of options when it comes to hiring a security company to protect your business. You can go as far as having a dedicated guard work exclusively at your location, or you can have the company conduct regular patrols of your property. You can even provide a checklist for the security officer to go through to ensure that everything is as it should be.

You’ve worked hard to establish your business and make it a success. Don’t take chances with its security. By applying the tips above, you’ll ensure that your company, your customers and your employees will be able to continue to do business safely and without worry.

How to Choose the Right Security Company

When it comes to hiring a security company, you have plenty of choices. Not all of them are created equal, however, and some are much better than others. Before investing your hard earned money, you want to make sure the company you choose is of the highest quality and will best suit your specific needs.Continue Reading
